I've been feeling burned out and started blocking email, slack, and social media until 1pm Eastern for myself. It's opened up so many focus blocks that I've worked through a ton of backlogged projects and tasks.

Now I'm seeing this isn't just a "me" issue but could be happening across our whole team, too!

If I were a betting man, I'd bet a lot on this not just a you issue.

I'll go further: because you're a leader of your team, you may have been unintentionally signaling that "good teammates" are responsive and always-on, even if that's not what you actually believe. Team habits frustratingly overrule what we say and believe.

And/or being doing the "because you send more Slack and email messages, you get more Slack and email messages" team habit.

All that's to say, I'm so glad you see it now, Nathalie. We can change what's visible. :)

I agree - I'm moving my newsletter to Substack (we can lovingly blame Tara McMullen for that!) and I've been really enjoying reconnecting with folks like you that I feel like we lost touch in the big social platform era.

Thank you for your reflections on this too! My team has been planning to read your Team Habits book and discuss in our next quarterly meeting... so this is all making sense and becoming more important too!
